Anyone interested in free speech and the "first amendment" (oft-trod-upon meme that it is) should look into the plight of Keith Henson, whose out-spoken critism of Scientology has won him a hate-crime conviction in a corrupt California court. Given the demonstrated legal power of Scientology, and the fact that even people who don't like Chris Columbus can be convicted of hate crimes these days, perhaps this shouldn't be surprising. Sigh.
